LIH Seeks Participants for Running Shoe Survey

The Study’s Objective

The Luxembourg Institute of Health is set to embark on a groundbreaking study that will investigate the impact of running shoe cushioning on injury risk.

The study concluded that a cushioning level of 10mm is optimal for runners, providing the best balance between performance and injury prevention. A subsequent study by the LIH and Decathlon from 2020 to 2022, conducted on 4,500 runners, focused on the impact of shoe upper material on injury risk. The results showed that runners wearing shoes with a polyurethane (PU) upper had a 22% lower injury risk compared to those wearing shoes with a polyurethane-vinyl (PV) upper. The study concluded that a PU upper is superior to a PV upper in terms of injury prevention.
