A good percentage of women wear heels during their lifetime. Some wear them occasionally while others do them on a daily basis. Others don’t do heels at all due to some health conditions amongst others; this isn’t our concern today though.
To the ladies who fancy high heeled shoes, what exactly do you like in them? Why would you wear heels over and over despite there being some risks associated with them? In reality, why do women wear high heels?
Well, in this article we’re going to have a look at why women wear heels. I’m pretty sure by the end of this article, if you haven’t been a high heel lover then you’ll be one. Just take a look.
Reasons why women wear high heels
Without wasting any much time, let’s get to learn why most women prefer high-heeled shoes to the flat ones.
1. For attractive walk
High heel shoes bring about a reduction in the size of the strides which consequently leads to increased tilt and rotation of a lady’s hips. The strutting that comes along with such a walking style increases a lady’s attractiveness. That’s why you’ll find more people turning their heads when a woman in high heels passes as compared to one in flat shoes.
Christian Louboutin, a French shoe designer, once said that the fact that heels slow down the pace of women make them the best. Guess why? To him, that gives men more time to appreciate the attractiveness of the lady.
2. To symbolize power
High heels were a preserve for the ruling class in the ancient times. Aristocratic women and men could wear heels on special occasions like ceremonies. The additional height that comes along with the heels was to set apart the rulers from the social class.
That was then, but to date women in heels are considered powerful. Take a look at the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Angela Merkel among others and you’ll realize that they’re often spotted in high heels due to the command they have.
3. As official dress code for office
Just like men with their shirts and ties, women tend to look classy and beautiful for office work in their heels. If you have the kind of job that doesn’t require a lot of standing, then you better stick to high heel shoes before you’re sent packing by your employer.
If you think it’s a joke, then think of Nicole Thorp who was sacked by Pricewaterhouse Coopers for not wearing heels. She was sent away without any pay because of not being “smart” for office work. Your image says a lot about who you work for.
4. For a more feminine look
For a long time now, heels were left to the ladies. It was and is still one of those easiest ways to differentiate women from men. Anybody in heels and is strutting is usually assumed to be a lady; which is actually 99% true so most women do go for the heels to avoid being misconstrued to be men.
Looks can at times be so deceitful. At least high heels can be an easier way to differentiate women from men even from afar.
5. As part of our culture
We’ve all grown up seeing most ladies rock heels and we’ve taken it to be part of our culture. The younger generation will automatically follow suit and the trend will continue for the years to come. This has, therefore, been made to appear like it’s culturally right for women to wear high heeled shoes.
And some women just wear the heels out of nothing but the mere fact that they’ve been brought up seeing other women wear heels.
6. To get more attention from men
Have you been single for long and you would want to get a boyfriend? Well, here is the trick. Wear your heels and have a sit somewhere and you’ll be surprised by how quickly you’ll be approached by men compared to when you wear flat shoes.
Actually, there isn’t any chance of you leaving the joint without having made your mind on who to settle for. Even if you are tired of washing the dishes after a long day in the office, the heels alone will make your husband come to your rescue. Who would sit back and watch their better halves do dishes in heels really?
7. For more persuasion
A lady selling stuff along the streets in heels has a higher chance of selling all her products compared to one in flat shoes. Why do I say so? The high-heeled one is likely to pull more crowds and in the process will be in a position to persuade a good number of them.
Are you a sales and marketing lady who wants higher returns in terms of commissions? Well, there you have the trick. Get yourself high heels and you’ll be surprised at the levels you’ll have reached at the end of the day.
Any woman in heels can easily persuade any random guy she comes across and that’s so important when it comes to business. Don’t you think so?
8. To boost confidence
Not everybody has been endowed with the over 6-feet height. I have friends who are short. Sometimes the short people are often mistaken to be kids. Yes, it happens. This at times demoralizes them and denies them the opportunity to speak out their minds in certain places.
To make them feel comfortable and confident, it is recommended that they put on heels. The confidence that comes with heels is just on another level. Never let anybody literally look down upon you when you’ve got access to heels.
So, why do women wear high heels? As you have seen above, there are so many reasons that can prompt a woman to wear high heeled shoes. Even though a good number of women don’t do heels for one reason or the other, those that wear them have reasons behind the habit of using high heels.
Have you come across one factor that is likely to prompt you into putting on heels? Which one is that? Do you have any other reasons behind your high-heeled stilettos? Feel free to share your reasons, thoughts and experiences with the many people who are eager to learn more.
